Go-ahead for popular Mayo pub's expansion plan

A vacant property in Castlebar's town centre is to be demolished and replaced with a two-storey extension to the adjoining Bridge St. bar.

It will allow for an additional seating area on the ground and first floor areas of the popular pub.

A planner's report set out how the proposal has been discussed with the Castlebar Municipal District office and the works along the side elevation did not present any cycle or pedestrian connectivity concerns along the existing laneway opposite Elverys.

Among the conditions attached to the grant of planning permission is that the developer will have an archaeologist on site to monitor all ground disturbance when the works start.

The property to be demolished was a former bookshop.
