Murray’s Recycled Plastic open new Mayo manufacturing unit

Murray’s Recycled Plastic, Glenisland, enjoyed their day in the sun when former Minister Michael Ring officially opened their new manufacturing unit.

The facility, funded under the LEADER programme, means the business has increased its potential to grow the business in line with strong demand for their products.

Murray’s Recycled Plastic is owned by husband-and-wife team John and Sheila Murray who run the business with their family and extended staff team.

They design and manufacture maintenance-free recycled plastic and durable lifelong outdoor furniture, gates, flower boxes, fencing and decking.

Sheila Murray said: “It is a wonderful milestone for our family business, having so many customers, friends and family here to celebrate our success over the last 22 years.

“Over the years, we have received great support from Local Enterprise Office (LEO) Mayo and, more recently, South West Mayo Development Company and Mayo Local Action Group (LAG), working together to help us secure a LEADER grant of €150,000 towards the overall investment of €300,000 for this new unit.”

Speaking on behalf of Mayo Local Action Group (LAG), John Magee, head of enterprise, LEO Mayo, said: “The Local Action Group was delighted to support Murray’s Recycled Plastic with the expansion of their manufacturing premises.

“We commend John and Sheila Murray on the business they’ve established and the significant local employment they have created, and we look forward to watching this business continue to grow.”

The LEADER investment was facilitated by the team of South West Mayo Development Company (SWMDC) and Paul Gibbons, SWMDC chairperson, addressed the gathering.

He stated: “I congratulate the Murray family and staff on their success, with customers across Ireland, all serviced from this rural base in County Mayo.

“I particularly thank our LEADER team members, Sue O'Toole and Fiona McGreal, who worked closely with the Murrays to bring this project to fruition.”

Before officially opening the new unit, Deputy Ring said: “This expansion of their family-run business is a tremendous example of ambition, dedication and sheer hard work, backed by funding from government.

“This new workshop will allow their business to continue to grow and employ people. I wish Murray’s Recycled Plastic continued success into the future.”
