Exhibition in Linenhall by Castlebar native

On Friday October 28, Marie Farrell and Maura Connolly are back at the Linenhall for one night early to open a ground breaking exhibition, Land and Language - Talamh agus Teanga - by Castlebar native, Derval Dunford.

A unique and free initiative provided by Derval, this is an inclusive project. The audience can support people who cannot come in person to interact with the exhibition, people in hospital, in other countries, people in need of a little peace. How I hear you ask?

Each audience member will be given the opportunity to send a virtual breath, a minute of peace, to a friend by snail mail! As a bonus they will also get to learn a cool Irish word.

Land and Language – Talamh agus Teanga has to be experienced to be understood. Suffice it to say, this exploration of eco-art uses cutting edge tech to impart ancient wisdom.

The exhibition is running alongside the Roola Boola Fest to inspire parents and children alike, to create awareness of the intimate relationship we have with nature, and each other through the breath. A virus spread through the breath stopped the world for two years, thus showing not just the power of the breath but how interconnected we all are.

Mayo Education Centre are encouraging schools to visit this socially engaging environmental project, which supports many of the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030 Agenda. It subtly explores climate emergency through interconnection, and hopes to encourage people to take action but from a gentle and simple perspective. In an emergency one needs to remain calm and connected to function optimally. Climate anxiety can overwhelm and paralyze, as a result this can lead to inaction. Generally when people feel a connection they care more and have a desire to do something to help, a desire that comes from the heart.

Derval has been invited to present on this project at the upcoming US Breath Body Mind Gala evening with the world renowned Psychiatrists and researchers Gerbarg and Brown. The exhibition has been endorsed by musician and environmental enhancement advocate Sharon Shannon, who described it simply as ‘beautiful’. The project was part-funded by Creative Ireland Mayo.

Come join them on Friday, October 28, at 5.30 p.m., bring your headphones or earbuds if you’d like an enhanced experience.
