National Fire Week to be marked in Mayo

National Fire Safety Week takes place from Monday next, October 17, to Sunday, October 23.

Mayo County Fire Service has organised four open days on weekend dates so that as many people as possible can attend.

Saturday, October 15: Castlebar Fire Station, between 2 and 4 p.m.

Sunday, October 16: Ballina Fire Station between 2 and 4 p.m.

Saturday, October 22: Kiltimagh Fire Station between 2 and 4 p.m.

Sunday, October 23: Claremorris Fire Station between 2 and 4 pm.

Bring along the whole family and chat to local fire crews about what’s involved in being an on-call firefighter and about fire safety in the home.

Activities include:

• Fire extinguisher demonstration

•Chip pan fire demonstration unit

•New community fire safety vehicle on display

The theme of this year’s National Fire Safety Week is: "Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives – Have you a plan if yours goes off!"
