Special meeting to discuss Claremorris modular homes proposal

A SPECIAL meeting of Mayo County Council will take place next Thursday afternoon to discuss proposals for modular homes in Claremorris town centre.

A local councillor has highlighted concerns about plans to erect 28 modular houses to accommodate people who have fled Ukraine.

Councillor Tom Connolly says the site on the Ballyhaunis Road, identified by the Department of Housing, is not suitable. It is also the subject of a planning application for apartments, which is currently before the council.

He raised the matter briefly at this month's full meeting of the local authority but it wasn't debated on as it had been agreed to adjourn early.

Now, a special meeting has been requisitioned to deal with the matter.

The request to cathaoirleach Councillor Seamus Weir was signed by nine elected members - Richard Finn, Damien Ryan, Martin McLoughlin, Christy Hyland, Michael Kilcoyne, Annie May Reape, Al McDonnell, John Caulfield and Tom Connolly - and he duly requisitioned the meeting, which will be held in the council chamber in Castlebar.
