Plenty of medals for Westport AC at Mayo cross country event

THE Mayo Even Ages Cross Country Championships took place at Ballinrobe Racecourse last Sunday week and despite the driving rains, cold and muck, all athletes put in a sterling performance.

For some it was their first experience of cross country and they braved the course with smiles on their faces.

Some of the individual highlights of the day include: gold in Under 10s boys (Finn Duckett); bronze in Under 12 girls (May Duckett); gold in Under 14 girls (Freya Renton); silver in Under 14 girls (Holly Renton); silver in Under 16 girls (Erica O’Driscoll); gold in Under 18 (Padraig Corduff); silver in Under 18 (Ruairi Hollywood); and gold in senior men (Bryan Renton).

Some of the team highlights of the day include silver for the Under 12 girls - May Duckett, Grace Burke, Emma McGing, Kasey Walsh, Maya Helberg, Grace Clancy and Aoife Corcoran.

A big thanks to all the parents who supported and helped out, to those involved in the organisation of the event, and to Lake-District Athletic Club for hosting the event. Well done to everyone.
