Approach road signage needed for Ballina car parks

BALLINA Fianna Fáil Councillor Annie May Reape is calling for the provision of signage on the approach to Ballina alerting visitor to the availability of car parking spaces in the town.

Explaining the rationale behind her proposal, Councillor Reape said: “Every single day I am contacted by people about the traffic and car parking issues in Ballina and I have noticed from those conversations that many people are totally unaware about the availability of some of our car parks.

“For example, the Bachelors Walk facility is only ever 50% full and it is a similar situation with the Barrett Street facility beside Ballina Arts Centre.

“While I understand that for people with mobility issues these particular car parks may be a little far from the town centre but for the majority they are within a 2-3 minute walk.

“Many people simply do not know they exist or how to access them. I am proposing that signage be erected on the approach roads alerting people to available spaces and that more visible directional signage be erected in the town.”
