Charlestown students win national award

STUDENTS from St. Joseph’s Community College, Charlestown, have received a top history award in University College Cork for their entry into the Decade of Centenaries All Island History Essay Competition 2022.

The competition is run by University College Cork and supported by the Department of Education. Their project won in the category of Women during the revolutionary period in Ireland.

D’arcy McCudden, Michaela O’Hehir, Cadhla O’Grady, Louise Horkan and Holly Carney, together with their teacher Ann Leydon, attend the award ceremony and received their award from Dr. Mervyn O’Driscoll, Head of History, UCC.

The project was researched with the help of Seamus Bermingham and the Charlestown Heritage Group and the descendants of local revolutionary women.
