Improvements works on Mayo's Bangor Trail

A NUMBER of improvement works have taken place on the Bangor Trail, which runs from Bangor to Letterkeen, outside Newport.

Works include a 400-metre linear boardwalk, which is complete, stone pitching, the provision of seating/rest areas and installation of additional directional signage at remote locations.

Mayo County Council worked with the National Parks and Wildlife Service on the improvements.

In remote areas, a helicopter was used to airlift and drop off materials, a council tourism meeting was told.

The works were welcomed by Councillor Peter Flynn, who said one criticism he would have had was in relation to signage.

They had to figure out a way to market the trail to a wider audience, he added.
