€135,750 for Mayo in Sport Ireland funding

A Mayo TD has today welcomed an announcement by Sport Ireland of an investment package in Tranche 1 Dormant Accounts Funding for a wide range of sport and physical activity measures across Ireland through the Local Sports Partnership Network, Cara, and Sport Ireland.

Deputy Alan Dillon, Fine Gael spokesperson on Tourism and Sport, said: “The investment aims to engage communities across the country, focusing on people living in disadvantaged communities, people with a disability, women and girls, and people who are educationally disadvantaged.

"Inclusion is a core value within sport, with sports inclusion disability projects also being prioritised within the funding. I am delighted that significant funding has been awarded to Mayo Sports Partnership initiatives in Mayo.

“Accessibility, availability, and opportunity are components to the Dormant Accounts Funding, with this investment showcasing the importance of increasing activity levels for people in Ireland.”

He said he delighted to see funding allocated to the following Mayo projects:

Community Sports and Physical Activity Hubs (CSPAH)

•Round 1 Hub Funding Allocation – Mayo Local Sports Partnership €60,000

•Round 3 Hub Funding Allocation – Mayo Local Sports Partnership €30,000

Volunteer Support

•Mayo Local Sports Partnership €20,000

Sports Inclusion Disability Projects (SIDP)

•Mayo Local Sports Partnership €19,250

Get Girls Active

•Mayo Local Sports Partnership €6,500

"I believe it is extremely important that people are encouraged and given opportunities to participate in sport and physical activity.

"Participation will lead to a healthier society and an overall improvement in the quality of life for all ages and gender, and through this funding, Sport Ireland will be able to continue to provide opportunities for people in disadvantaged areas to participate in sport," added Deputy Dillon.
