It is genuinely hoped the housing scheme at Ellison Street, Castlebar, under the direction of Fr. Peter McVerry, will go ahead in the quickest possible time.

The houses will hugely improve the appearance of the area.

The same applies to the proposed housing scheme at Lower Charles Street.

The types of housing schemes envisaged for Ellison Street and Lower Charles Street are welcome and will greatly enhance both areas.

The Peter McVerry Trust is Ireland’s largest provider of Housing First services. Since 2020, the charity has been responsible for 61% of the services delivered under the National Housing First Implementation Plan.

The Housing First model aims to provide a person sleeping rough, or someone who has been long-term homeless, with their own secure accommodation as well as access to intensive and specialised support services.
