€40,000 in funding for 20 Men’s Sheds across Mayo
Two Mayo TDs - Alan Dillon and Michael Ring - have welcomed funding of €40,000 to support the running of 20 Men’s Sheds groups in the county.
Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys, has today announced a total funding of €800,000 to support Men’s Sheds nationally.
The initiative will see grants of €2,000 provided to over 400 Men’s Sheds nationwide to assist them with running costs such as electricity or insurance bills.
Deputy Dillon said he was delighted that 20 Men’s Sheds across the length and breadth of Mayo will receive funding of €2,000 each to assist them in their weekly running costs or to carry out small improvements in their premises.
“Men’s Shed groups across Mayo provide a valuable service in rural and urban areas. They help tackle isolation and provide a welcoming and comfortable space for men to come together and socialise.
"Like any voluntary organisation, Men’s Sheds are facing larger bills due to the cost of living.
“So I hope this funding will assist them over the winter months and help bring our Men’s Sheds from strength to strength.”
Deputy Ring commented: “Men’s Sheds provide an invaluable service in communities.
"They help tackle isolation and provide a welcoming and comfortable space for men to come together and socialise. Men’s Sheds have gone from strength to strength. I hope this funding boost will be of assistance to them as they continue their wonderful work”.
