Status Yellow weather warning in place in Mayo

A Status Yellow wind and rain warning is now in place in Mayo.

It will remain in place until 9 p.m. tonight.

Met Éireann are predicting some severe and damaging gusts may occur in addition to heavy rain.

There is potential for localised wave overtopping along coasts.

Mayo County Council has urged people to exercise caution when out and about.

A marine storm warning - Status Orange - is in place from Mizen Head to Slyne Head to Malin Head and on the Irish Sea north of Anglesey where southerly winds, veering westerly, will reach storm force 10 at times today on Irish coastal waters.
