Vicky Phelan's legacy recalled at Mayo meeting

TRIBUTES have been flooding in from across Ireland and around the world for the late cervical cancer campaigner Vicky Phelan, who died yesterday.

She was remembered at the monthly meeting of Mayo County Council where a vote of sympathy was extended to Vicky's family as they mourn a woman of great courage who made an immeasurable contribution to Irish life.

Vicky (48) had shone a spotlight on failings in the health system and on women's health, said Councillor Jarlath Munnelly, who acknowledged the huge contribution she had made to Irish society.

Councillor Donna Sheridan said her thoughts were with Vicky's family and friends at this difficult time.

She had been an advocate for women's health and having seen her film recently, she was had been very moved.
