Work starts on restoration of 'unsafe' Mayo derelict buildings

Work has commenced on renovating three derelict buildings on Ellison Street in Castlebar - a location badly in needed of a facelift.

They are being made secure and safe ahead of plans for the development of 27 accommodation units being put in place by Mayo County Council in the future.

Welcoming the news, Councillor Ger Deere said it's great to see the work being carried out as the location had become unsightly and posed a serious safety issue.

He looked forward to a start being eventually made to the new housing units
