Date when Christmas officially starts in Mayo is announced

The switching-on of the Christmas lights in Mayo's county town takes place on Friday, December 2, at 5 p.m.

The event - to be held at The Mall in Castlebar - will signal the start of the festive season in the county.

Mayo people are encouraged to shop local throughout the Christmas period in order to support the county's economy.
