Revealing book on the Famine by Mayo priest is launched

The Bishop of Killala, Dr. John Fleming, has launch the latest book on the Famine by Fr. Brendan Hoban.

Entitled π™Šπ™£ π™Šπ™ͺ𝙧 π™†π™£π™šπ™šπ™¨, π™π™–π™’π™žπ™£π™š π™žπ™£ π™©π™π™š π™‹π™–π™§π™žπ™¨π™π™šπ™¨ 𝙀𝙛 π™†π™žπ™‘π™‘π™–π™‘π™– π˜Ώπ™žπ™€π™˜π™šπ™¨π™š (1845-1852), this second volume gives a comprehensive history of each of the 22 parishes in Mayo and north Sligo.

It reveals the conditions in which the people lived, the personal, social and poverty constraints they laboured under, the horrors they experienced, the fevers they were prone to, their efforts to stay alive and and the deaths they endured.

It marks the 175th anniversary of 1847, Black 47, the worst year of the Famine, and chronicles the agony and the anguish of the Famine years in Killala diocese in chilling detail.
