Mayo septic tanks issue likened to ‘Fr. Ted’
A MAYO councillor has compared some procedures involving upgrades to septic tanks as having Fr. Ted qualities.
Councillor Johnny O'Malley made his comments at a Westport-Belmullet Municipal District meeting when highlighting the plight of two home owners who want to upgrade their septic tanks but don't qualify for grant aid.
The homes, in the Louisburgh area, were built by Mayo County Council and subsequently purchased by the occupants.
Now, the septic tanks put in by the council have been condemned.
The property owners cannot get a grant for the upgrade because, they were told by Irish Water, 'they did not pay the fiver back in 2014 to register their septic tanks', he explained.
“That is the kind of story you would see on Fr. Ted,” commented Councillor O'Malley.
It was nonsense and the council should be doing something about it, he said.
