Westport AC’s Freya Renton retains national cross-country title

WESTPORT Athletics Club offers huge congratulations to all runners who travelled up to Donegal for the All-Ireland Cross Country Even Ages Championships.

They were absolutely fantastic and made the club proud competing with the best in Ireland.

The course was a fast one with both flat and hilly sections, with sun, rain and rainbows.

One of the highlights of the day was Freya Renton, who beat 172 of the fastest Under 14 girls in Ireland to retain her title as the queen of cross-county. Holly Renton also came a wonderful close second. Both girls are only 12 years old and running out of age.

Other members of the club who ran great races included Ruairi Hollywood, Padraig Corduff, Hank Baxter, Grace Bourke, Emma McGing, Kasey Walsh, Maya Helberg, Erin Walsh, Ailbhe Duffy, May Duckett, Grace Clancy, Ethan Doherty and Maud O'Reilly. Well done to all.

Westport AC also wish to thank the most caring coach in the world, Angela Corduff, all the parents who travelled and supported on the day too and all in Donegal who organised a high quality and great event.

Some of these athletes also qualified for the Uneven Ages All-Ireland Cross-Country Championships in Cork this Sunday (December 4).

If anyone wishes to watch the action again, highlights can be viewed on the Connacht Athletics and Athletics Ireland Facebook pages.
