Mayo lifeboat unit pays tribute to 'a great Erris man' on his passing

The death has occurred of Kevin Gannon, Church Road, Belmullet, and formerly of American Street, Belmullet and Rossport.

He died peacefully at Mayo Hospice yesterday surrounded by his loving family.

In a tribute to him, Ballyglass RNLI said it was truly saddened to learn of the passing of a dear friend and colleague.

The tribute continued: "Kevin was a fundraiser for Ballyglass RNLI since the late 1960s along with the late Paddy Leech.

"We are truly thankful for their firm belief that one day the fruits of their labour would be a lifeboat in Erris.

"Kevin remained a firm stalwart in fundraising and always made sure to be available to do the annual Church Gate collection.

"Kevin was a great Erris and Belmullet man.

"To many he was known back in the day as “the ESB man” as he travelled Erris reading the EDB meters in our homes. He was one of life's gentlemen, who had a word for everyone, young or old.

"To his wife Mary, their family, extended relatives, neighbours and huge circle of friends, we offer our most sincere condolences at this sad and difficult time for you all.

"Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dilís."

Predeceased by his parents Seán and Annie Mai, sister Mary and brothers Kieran and Seán, he is survived by his wife Mary, daughters Maureen, Teresa, Siobhán and Majella, sister Marlene, grandchildren Stephaine, Graeme, Orla and Fiadhna, great grandchildren Leah, Jack and Emily, sons-in-law Paul, Duncan and Martin, aunt Nan (Raheny, Dublin), brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives neighbours and many friends.
