Mayo county town's newly-awarded status is result of hard work
Castlebar has been named the best place to work from home in Ireland.
The price comparison website Switcher.ie has published the finding of a recent survey which looked at house prices, crime rates, broadband speeds and 5G mobile coverage, access to green spaces, fitness and leisure centres, cafes and food delivery services, as well as health centres, GP surgeries and top schools.
According to the analysis, Mayo’s county capital is the best place to work from home, following by Leixlip, Navan, Galway city and Longford town.
The research stated: “Castlebar coined the top spot as the best place to work from home in Ireland.
"Not only are house prices considerably lower than others on our list, it offers a winning mix of great leisure amenities, speedy broadband, 5G mobile coverage and plenty of green spaces."
It also revealed Castlebar is the best place for families.
Welcoming the news, Councillor Cyril Burke said: “A huge effort has gone into Castlebar by numerous organisations including Mayo County Council, Castlebar Chamber of Commerce, business groups, tourism networks and other.
"Over the last two decades all these organisations have been working together and individually to develop the town as an attraction for companies to set up business here, to set up home and to enjoy the benefits that a progressive town has to offer at an affordable cost.
"Castlebar also has a great education offering from primary schools all the way to third level.
"Our broadband service, road network and public transport connectivity is improving annually which is making life on the west coast so attractive now for so many to avail of.
"Congratulations to all who have played their part in this positive news for our county town and county.”
