Cavan venue selected for All-Ireland IHC semi-final between Mayo and Down clubs

Kingspan Breffni Park in Cavan has been selected as the venue for the AIB GAA All-Ireland club intermediate hurling championship semi-final between Mayo's Tooreen and Liatroim Fontenoys of Down.

The game has been scheduled for next Saturday, December 17, with a 1 p.m. throw-in time.

“We're very happy with it. We're kind of a smaller team and we like big pitches. Liatroim are a big team, physical team, so bigger pitches suit us,” said Tooreen manager Ray Larkin in reaction to the venue selection.

The Down side created history last Saturday by becoming first club side from the county to land the Ulster intermediate crown, beating Armagh's Middletown by 2-20 to 0-20 at Corrigan Park, Antrim.

Meanwhile, Mayo champions Tooreen claimed their third Connacht intermediate title in succession (and fourth in six years) the previous Sunday with a 0-22 to 1-15 victory over Galway's Killimor in Athleague, Roscommon.

Next Saturday's All-Ireland semi-final will be Tooreen's fourth at this level. After being defeated by by Ballyragget of Kilkenny in 2018, Fr. O'Neill's of Cork in 2020 and Naas of Kildare last year, they will be hoping to go one better against Liatroim Fontenoys of Down next Saturday.
