Councillors want to see greenway delivered out to Louisburgh and on to Roonagh Pier (pictured).

TII asked for update on west Mayo greenway project

CONCERN has been expressed that the greenway link from Murrisk to Louisburgh and on to Roonagh is not a priority with Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII).

TII have been requested to attend a meeting of Mayo County Council's tourism committee in the new year to update members on their plans for the route.

Progress is being made on other projects along the Clew Bay greenway, including in Achill and also Newport town, which is now at public consultation stage.

Councillor Peter Flynn expressed concern that the Murrisk-Roonagh section was being 'parked' until there is progress on other aspects of the trail, something he would have 'great difficulty' with.

The connection from Bertra and on to Louisburgh and Roonagh is a priority and it would not be acceptable that it would be forgotten about.

Requesting TII to attend a meeting - they have been officially invited, an update was also requested on the urban connector project linking Westport, Castlebar and Ballina.
