Free morning parking for Christmas shoppers to Mayo county town

Castlebar Municipal District has announced that free parking is being introduced in the county town on the lead-up to Christmas.

It will come into effect tomorrow (Thursday) morning and operate from 8.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. with signage being put in place from Friday.

All public car parks owned by the council, apart from the one at Dunnes Stones, are covered by the shopping incentive.

They include the facilities at Castle Street, Market Square and Pavillion Road.

The decision was announced by Iarla Moran, head of the Castlebar Municipal District, at today's meeting of the authority.

He was responding to a notice of motion submitted by Councillor Ger Deere, who welcomed the announcement.

The promotion does not cover on-street parking.
