Mayo's bravehearted Bulls making a splash this Christmas Day

THIS Christmas Day at 1 p.m., for the first time ever, all teams from Westport RFC will be participating in the annual swim at Bertra beach.

The bravehearted Bulls, young and ‘seasoned’, will charge into the chilly Clew Bay seawaters when the famous hooter sounds, and they need your support.

This year’s Christmas Day swim is to support the running of all the club teams and is part of a great tradition at the club. This year will see all age groups from minis, youth, senior, male and female, taking part and fundraising for the club together at one event.

All those involved with Westport RFC or who support the club in any way will also be encouraged to join and support the swim.

There will be hot drinks and festive treats and, of course, a chance to take a dip with the swimmers. It promises to be a fantastic event and a memorable way to start your Christmas Day celebrations.

The club acknowledge that this event will not interfere with those who like to swim at Bertra on Christmas Day but will rather enhance the atmosphere.

There are as many as 20 teams playing each week as part of Westport Rugby Club and this involves a large amount of organisation and funding throughout the year. All involved in the swim, from minis to seniors, coaches, management and supporters, will be looking for sponsorship in advance of the event and are asking for your generosity.

Sponsor cards are with all participants so if you know a young or older Bull please offer to buy a line. If you cannot make it on the day please consider making a small donation.

It is hoped that this year’s club effort will become an annual event and an occasion that all those with an interest in rugby in the Westport and the Clew Bay areas will mark on their calendar each year.
