Safety issue at new west Mayo greenway route

SAFETY signage is needed at a stretch of the new greenway in Murrisk that runs along the main road.

Concern about passing traffic has been raised by a number of people who have been enjoying the new 3k route that runs from the famine monument in Murrisk to Bertra.

Councillor Christy Hyland said people, many cycling with children, have to come out onto the road for a 50-metre stretch and it is dangerous.

“It is a serious danger,” he told a council tourism committee meeting.

He was told a safety audit is being conducted to see what can be done to improve the situation.
