Mayo community in mourning over passing of popular young man

The death has taken place of Andrew Verity, Carrabeag, Newport Road, and late of Knockaphunta, Castlebar.

A member of a much-loved and popular local family, news of his passing has evoked a tremendous sense of loss in the town.

The deceased was held in high regard as a member of staff of Western Care, Castlebar.

Many warm tributes are being paid to him on social media.

"So many great memories with him of our days growing up in Knockaphunta. Always so kind and welcoming. Full of fun and always up for a laugh," one stated.

Another said: "He always had a smile, a nice word and a good way about him."

A further tribute stated: "He was such a pleasant and friendly work colleague in Western Care Association."

He is deeply regretted by his heartbroken wife Gemma, parents Mari and Steve, brother Jordan, sister Susan, sister-in-law Teresa, brothers-in-law Kevin, Dermot, Conor and Colm, mother and father-in-law Joe and Josie Gibbons (Lisacromwell, Castlebar), aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends, to whom deepst sympathy is tendered.

Remains reposing at his residence, 45 Carrabeag, Newport Road, Castlebar, on Tuesday evening from 4 until 6 p.m.

Removal on Wednesday at 11.15 a.m. for Funeral Mass at 12 noon in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar.

Andrew will be laid to rest afterwards in New Cemetery, Castlebar.
