Pfizer seek all medical records relating to Mayo teenager's death
Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer has requested that they be provided with all the relevant medical records relating to a teenager from Achill Island, who died in September of last year three weeks after he was inoculated with the company’s Covid-19 vaccine.
The Coroner for Mayo, Pat O’Connor, informed a preliminary inquest hearing yesterday that he has been asked by Mr. Roddy Bourke of McCann Fitzgerald LLP, Dublin, that the data relating to Joseph McGinty (14), The Valley, Achill, be made available to his clients.
The coroner said it was his view that the information be provided in order to get a full overview of Joseph's medical condition prior to his death.
The death of the teenager has previously been described by Mr. O’Connor as “a matter of significant public concern."
Joseph McGinty was vaccinated with the vaccine on August 20 last year. He died at his home three weeks later on September 13, 2021.
The coroner agreed to a request by Ms. Rita Kilroy, counsel for the bereaved family, that the family should be furnished with draft depositions in the matter.
Mr. O’Connor said he understood that a number of investigations had been conducted into the death and he asked that the result of these investigations be furnished to him.
Stating that a lot of work remains to be done, the coroner put back the matter to Swinford Courthouse on January 24 next for mention and review.
A request by Ms. Kilroy for legal aid and legal advice for the McGinty family under Section 60 of the Coroners’ Act 1962 has been granted.
