€37,000 quote for shower at popular Mayo swimming spot
THE installation of a cold water shower for swimmers at The Point in Westport comes with a bill for €37,000.
Irish Water were asked for a price for the job, with the council told the connection works will cost €32,000 and the shower itself €5,000.
The project would involve 240 metres of pipeline, a Westport-Belmullet Municipal District meeting heard.
Councillor Peter Flynn said he has written to the utility company's chief executive about the quote and is still awaiting a response.
His colleague Councillor Christy Hyland is also looking for connections, for two water fonts in the town. The maximum price there is €8,000, with annual standing and usage charges also to apply.
Councillor Hyland said he'll fund them, pointing out how positive they would be in reducing the use of plastic.
