Go ahead for new north Mayo primary school
PLANS for the redevelopment of Ballina primary school Scoil Iosa have been given the green light.
The project will see the demolition of existing school buildings, out buildings, play shelters and the two derelict ruins on the site boundary at Convent Hill, McDermott Street.
A new two-storey school with a total floor area of 2,786sqm will be built in its place.
The new building will have 13 classrooms, a SEN base and general purpose hall.
The plans approved by Mayo County Council also include revised access from McDermott Street to provide vehicular drop-off, set-down and parking provisions on site.
There will be hard and soft play surfaces, including a sensory garden.
