Premiere of film about War of Independence in west Mayo

A NEW film about the War of Independence in west Mayo is to be premiered in Westport this month.

The West Mayo Flying Column in The War of Independence will have its premiere showing on Friday, January 27, in Westport Town Hall Theatre.

The film follows the exploits of the Flying Column, led by General Michael Kilroy of Newport, in the struggle for Irish freedom.

Guest speaker at the event is Councillor Gerry Coyle who recently launched a book about his father, Henry Coyle, and his role in the War of Independence. The book - A Forgotten Freedom Fighter - has been very well received around the world.

Tickets for the premiere are €10 and all proceeds will go to St. Vincent de Paul. Tickets are available online at https://www.westporttheatre.com/.
