Mayo's weather set to turn Arctic from Sunday evening

Met. Éireann has issued an advisory notice in respect of Arctic weather conditions.

It will turn cold across the country between Sunday evening and Thursday morning as an Arctic airflow becomes established, bringing sharp to severe frosts and icy stretches on roads and footpaths.

Some showers of hail, sleet and snow are expected with the potential for freezing fog.

Further updates and warnings are expected to be issued in the coming days.

Tomorrow will bring a mix of sunshine and scattered blustery heavy showers.

The showers will be most frequent in Atlantic coastal parts with a chance of hail and isolated thunderstorms.

Becoming windy as fresh to strong and gusty westerly winds develop.

Highest afternoon temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees, but feeling colder due to the wind chill factor.
