New exhibition of photographs from fair day in north Mayo town

A NEW photographic exhibition featuring the August fair day in Belmullet will take people on a trip down memory lane.

The exhibition features the work of photographer Terry O'Brien, with stunning photos from the Belmullet fair day in the 1980s and '90s.

The black and white snaps - 34 in all - were shot on 35mm film and capture the atmosphere of a special day in the north Mayo town, when deals were made and bargains sought on the bustling streets.

The exhibition will open this evening (Friday) at 7 p.m. in Áras Inis Gluaire, the Erris Arts Centre, in Belmullet. All are invited to come along.

Last year Terry exhibited photos in Castlebar from the filming of The Ballroom of Romance in Ballycroy in the early '80s.

Terry was living in Achill at the time and his exhibition featured 48 previously unseen images from the film.
