Heartbreak for St. Joseph's School in national final
St. Joseph Secondary School were beaten by Gaelcholáiste na Mara, Arklow 4-2 on penalties in the FAI Senior B National Cup final this afternoon.
The east Mayo school went in front in the 32nd minute through Adam Gallagher and looked to be holding on but Gaelcholáiste na Mara levelled three minutes before time through skipper Patrick Leccardi.
Nine minutes into the first period of extra-time, Colm Rutledge put St. Joseph's in front with a brilliant strike only for Louis MacMaolcholium to equalise in the second period of extra-time, forcing penalties.
They would fall short in the lottery of the shoot but they can hold their heads high following a remarkable campaign for the Foxford school, which saw the girls team win their National Cup last week with a 2-1 victory over Coláiste Oiriall, Monaghan.
