€1,004,736 for Mayo roads under Local Improvement Scheme

DEPUTY Michael Ring has welcomed the confirmation that funding in the amount of €1,004,736 has been allocated to Mayo roads for repairs and improvement works on rural roads and laneways under the Local Improvement Scheme (LIS).

Some €954,736 has been allocated to County Mayo roads with a further €50,000 specifically ringfenced for offshore island roads in Mayo.

Said Deputy Ring : “This funding will support the continued improvement of non-public roads and lanes that are not normally maintained by the local authorities.

“The investment is key to supporting vital road infrastructure in rural communities, as well as providing access to homes, farms and outdoor amenities such as lakes, rivers and beaches.”

He added: “Local connectivity is absolutely vital for our rural communities and this investment will benefit the lives of families County Mayo.

“The government have always stated that the Local Improvement Scheme is about making people’s lives that bit easier, ensuring we have good access to homes, farms and our local amenities.

“I welcome the announcement that funding has been ringfenced for the roads on our offshore islands.

“The Local Improvement Scheme is a tremendous scheme which offers the opportunity for rural roads to be repaired and maintained.”
