Repatriation fund for young Mayo woman who died tragically in the US

A Go Fund Me page has been set up to help repatriate the remains of Serena Carney, Gurteens, Straide, Foxford, whose death has taken place tragically in New York.

News of her passing, which occurred yesterday, has evoked a tremendous sense of sorrow and loss across the county.

She was a past pupil of Scoil Muire Agus Padraig, Swinford.

Over 1,000 donors have to date contributed a sum over €49,000 to the fund.

The appeal by Serena's family stated: "Serena tragically passed away on 16/2/23.

"In order to get her home unfortunately there are costs with it.

"We would ask for any small donation you can give please

"Thank you."

A daughter of the late Sean and Nancy Carney, she is deeply regretted by her brothers John, Jason and Jamie, sister Sharon, extended family and friends, to whom deepest sympathy is tendered.

May her gentle soul rest in peace.
