Hollymount’s Danny and Roseanna Walsh – the teenage musical duo also known as SAVIO – performed their debut concert at the Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar, over the bank holiday weekend. The concert went down a treat. These young musicians are certainly ones to watch.

ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARADE

Those wishing to become involved in a voluntary capacity in this year’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Ballinrobe are asked to contact Monica at (087) 4111343.

Organisers are looking for individuals with fresh ideas and a desire to maintain the town’s proud reputation as a must-visit location on St. Patrick’s Day.

MAPLE YOUTH CENTRE

SPACE (social prescribing and creative empowerment) is a course which runs in the Maple Youth Centre every Friday from 1.30 to 3 p.m.

The course, which commenced on February 10 and will run until March 10, is for youths aged 13 to 15. It’s designed to help participants with confidence building, bringing a sense of calm, resilience building, social engagement and positive mental health.

Places are limited. Those wishing to take part are asked to contact the Maple Youth Centre now.

ART AND POTTERY

Children’s art classes take place every Wednesday from 4.30 to 5.30 p.m., with children’s pottery classes taking place every Friday at 5 p.m. and every Saturday at 12 noon.

BALLINROBE WHIST DRIVE

The weekly Ballinrobe whist drive takes place in the Cáirde Crann Mór Centre, The Neale Road, Ballinrobe, every Wednesday night at 8.30 p.m.

New players are welcome. No previous experience of whist is necessary and the game can be learned quickly. Members will be happy to guide newcomers along and teach the rules.

Whist is an enjoyable game for people of all ages.

50/50 DRAW

Congratulations to Mark Smith who was last week’s winner of €105 in the weekly 50/50 draw organised by the Tacú Family Resource Centre.

The 50/50 tickets (€2 each or three for €5) are available to purchase in Tacú Family Resource Centre, and the draw is held each Tuesday night at the weekly game of bingo in the parish centre.

PARENT GROUPS

The toddler group meet in the Tacú Centre every Tuesday from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., while the parent and baby group meet up every Wednesday, also from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. in the same venue. For more, contact (087) 4111343.

WALKING FOOTBALL

Walking football for men takes place at the astroturf in The Green every Thursday night from 9 to 10 p.m. (note the change of day and time).

This is suitable for any age. The sport is strictly no running, with an emphasis on football, fun and fitness. No previous experience of playing soccer is required.

PAINTING CLASSES

A six-week art class will commence on Tuesday, February 21, under the tutelage of Sean Murphy. Participants can learn how to paint with oils. The classes take place every Tuesday in the Tacú Centre from 7.30 to 9.30 p.m.

GOALS GALORE

There were goals galore on February 7 last as the Ballinrobe Community School and Balla Secondary School Under 14 girls Gaelic football teams played each other.

Despite notching six goals, Balla suffered defeat on an incredible scoreline of 10-15 to 6-1.

Both sides deserve plenty of credit for producing an epic clash in what were very windy conditions.

NOEL ANSBRO MEMORIAL CUP

The Noel Ansbro Memorial Cup basketball competition will take place on Saturday, February 25, in the Lakeside Centre, Station Road, Ballinrobe. The competition is open to ladies and gents.

RUGBY CLUB NEWS

Ballinrobe Rugby Club emerged victorious from a tricky away assignment against Galway Corinthians 2nd XV at Corinthian Park on Sunday week last, winning on a scoreline of 21-17. This was another crucial league victory for Ballinrobe and saw the black and white occupy second spot in the J1B table.

Today (February 19) Ballinrobe will host Ballyhaunis at The Green (k.o. 2.30 p.m.) in what will be their final J1B encounter of the season and a victory for the Robesiders (depending on the result last Sunday against Ballina 2nd XV) should secure second place in the group and a coveted place in the promotion playoffs.

Off the pitch, the club held its weekly 50/50 draw in Fitzpatrick’s Bar, Main Street, Ballinrobe, on Sunday week last, with John Joyce winning €460.

LOTTO DRAW

There was no winner of Garrymore GAA Club's €10,000 lotto jackpot in the draw which took place on February 5 last. The numbers drawn were 6, 11, 16 and 25.

The €50 winners were Margaret Leahy, Garrymore, Angela Forkan, Ballyhaunis, and Siobhan Heaney, Ballyglass.

WEEKLY DRAW

THERE was no outright winner of the Tourmakeady GAA Club lotto in the draw held on February 4 last. The jackpot could be a possible €5,500 on Saturday (February 18).

Last week's numbers chosen were 14, 30, 31 and 32, and consolation winners were Jacqueline Prendergast, Clonee; Richard O'Toole, Ballybannon; and Austin and Catherine O'Neill, Kilkeeran.

CHURCHFIELD CEMETERY

As you are aware, space is fast running out in Churchfield Graveyard. The Coiste Pobal has been in contact with Mayo County Council about this.

The council would be in favour of providing a new graveyard if there is a suitable piece of land of approximately three or four acres available.

KNITTING CLUB

DEATH IN MANCHESTER

The death has taken place in Manchester, England, of Anne Higgins, sister of Nellie Burke and Oliver Wickham, both Tooreen, Partry, to whom sympathy is extended, and also the extended family. May her soul rest in peace.

RENEWAL PLAN

The Tuar Mhic Eadaigh Community Futures Renewal Plan is due for renewal shortly. This will entail a household survey which will give everyone the opportunity to put their ideas forward and be included in the next five-year plan for the community.

SOCIAL CLUB

Calling all over 50s in the Tourmakeady area - the weekly social club is held every Thursday from 2 p.m. in Tourmakeady Hall, with lots of fun, games and cuppa. All are welcome.

YOGA CLASSES

If there is enough demand for classes, Carmel is willing to start yoga on Tuesday, February 21, for six weeks. There is a need for 12 people to attend to cover the cost of the tutor.
