Funeral of young Mayo woman who died tragically in New York

The funeral arrangements have been announced for Serena Carney, Gurteens, Straide, Foxford, who died tragically in New York last Thursday.

Her remains will be reposing at Coady’s Funeral Home, Castlebar, on Friday evening between 4 and 7 p.m.

Requiem Mass will be celebrated in St. Peter & Paul’s Church, Straide, at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Interment takes place afterwards in Straide Cemetery.

Her passing has cast a cloud of immense sadness over the community.

Over 1,400 donors responded generously to a fundraising appeal to repatriate her remains.

Predeceased by her parents Sean and Nancy Carney, she is sadly missed by her heartbroken family: sister Sharon, brothers John, Jason, Jamie, grandmother Jo, nephew Caelan, cousin Karyn, aunts Marian (Killawalla), Breda (Straide Road), Patricia (Keelogues), Carmel (Swinford), Marion (England) and Angela (Dublin), uncles, Martin (Castlebar), Micheal (Claremorris) and Gerry (Boyle) and extended family, neighbours and friends, to whom sympathy is tendered.

May her gentle soul rest in peace.
