Mayo Pipe Band invited to celebrate 75th anniversary in Paris
The Fianna Phadraig Irish Pipe Band from the Mayo Manchester Tradfest has been invited to parade through the centre of Paris along the world famous Champs Elysee to the Eiffel Tower on Sunday, March 19.
The event is one of a number of major events in which the band is involved for the St Patrick's weekend celebrations.
Tony Hennigan from Mayo Manchester commented: "It will be great to see the band, which been performing in Mayo since 2013, parading in their green and red uniforms through the capital of France in the 125th anniverary year of General Humbert landing in Mayo.
"But it's not the first time the band have played such a high profile event, they were also one of the few Irish Pipe Bands to play at Ireland's 50th and 100th independence celebrations in Dublin."
The band of 32 drummers and pipers are all set to press the green button as part of the Tourism Ireland campaign to celebrate St. Patrick's Week and encourage people to visit the Emerald Isle.
The award winning band will celebrate their 75th anniversary with a series of high profile gigs in Manchester, Liverpool and Paris.
They start their St. Patrick's week celebrations on Sunday, March 12, in Manchester at the annual St Patricks Parade from the Irish World Heritage Centre.
On St. Patrick's Day itself they will perform a massive 12 hour celebration starting in Liverpool at the annual St. Patrick's Day event and finishing in Levenshulme, Burnage before heading back home to Wythenshawe.
