Death of former Mayo County Council employee is deeply regretted

The death has occurred of Patrick Burke (better known as Paddy), Creevagh, Ballyheane, Castlebar, and formerly of Derrygarrow, Cregganbaun, Louisburgh,

He died peacefully at the Mayo Hospice, Castlebar.

Like many of his generation Paddy emigrated to England as a young man but later returned and set up home in Ballintubber with his wife Bridget.

Paddy worked for many years with Mayo County Council where he was well liked and respected by his colleagues.

In his free time he enjoyed attending dog shows as he was a great lover of animals, particularly dogs.

Paddy was well known for his singing and was often called on to sing a song or two at social occasions.

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Bridget (née Larkin) his daughters Ann and Caroline and her partner Stephen, his adored grandchildren Ben, Max and Elara, his brother Walter (Coventry), brother-in-law, sister-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives, friends and neighbours, to whom sympathy is tendered.

Paddy was predeceased by his parents Patrick and Annie Burke (née Duffy), brothers Michael (USA) and John (Derrygarrow), sisters Mary (Dublin), Winnie Morrison (Killadoon, Louisburgh), Nancy Gibbons (Cregganroe, Louisburgh), Nora McTigue (Shrule) and Evelyn Peach (Florida, USA).

His funeral will arrive at Ballintubber Abbey tomorrow (Monday) morning for Funeral Mass at 11 a.m.

Afterwards Paddy will be laid to rest in Killeen Cemetery, Louisburgh, arriving at 1.15pm via Cregganbaun.
