Mayo native hosts celebration of the Women of Irish Country Music

LET’S talk about country music!

An International Women’s Day event is taking place in the Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar, where audiences are invited to consider Irish country music from the perspective of female performers.

Musicologist Dr. Christina Lynn, a native of Crossmolina, will chat about her research and the lived experience of Philomena Begley, Margo O’Donnell and Susan McCann.

Join her for the remarkable story of the extraordinary life, music and legacy of the Women of Irish Country Music on Wednesday, March 1, at 2 p.m.

International Women's Day (IWD) celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality.

IWD has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. It is not country, group or organisation specific.
