Death of Castlebar woman Meleesa Egan is deeply regretted
The death has taken place of Meleesa Egan, a member of one of Castlebar's best-known and most respected families.
News of her passing has evoked a sense of great loss in the community.
Beloved daughter of the late Eithne and Michael J. Egan, Mountain View, she is deeply missed by her sisters Coleesa, Mary Kate, Eanya, Felicity, Geraldine, Micheline and Pauline, her brother John, her forever-friend Maura Lyons, her chief advocate Mary Martin, sIster-in-law Mary Barton and brothers-in-law John Curtin, Paul FitzGerald, Aidan Crowley, Ki Duong and Frank-Karel Snepvangers.
Meleesa was godmother to Robert and Ellen and devoted aunt to Clementine, Jack, Simon, Kai, Rowan, Callan, Megan and Pieter.
Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their loss.
The Egan family has extended sincere thanks to the medical staff at Mayo University Hospital and St. John’s Unit, Castlebar, for their expert care.
"Deep gratitude to the superb team of carers and supporters from the HSE, RehabCare, IWA, Western Care, RHS, Connected Health, Mayo County Council Castlebar Library staff past and present, healthcare providers, Mayo, and the wide circle of friends, neighbours, taxi drivers and acquaintances who ensured Meleesa could live independently in the comfort of her own home to the very end," the family notice stated.
Many warm tributes have been paid to the deceased on social media where she was described as "a lovely lady whose deep curiosity about people and affection will have connected her with many people."
Reposing on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. in Coady’s Funeral Home, Castlebar.
Funeral Mass takes place in The Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, at 11.30 a.m. on Thursday followed by burial in the Old Cemetery, Castlebar.
