West Mayo memorial proposal for people who served in wars

A WEST Mayo community is planning a memorial to local people who have served in wars.

Louisburgh-Killeen Heritage have lodged a section 5 planning declaration to erect a stone plaque along an existing wall in the locality in remembrance of all people from the area who served in past wars.

The site is at Killeen Church and the hope is to commemorate local people who have served in past wars at home and abroad. The location for the proposed one-metre plaque is along the main road, with safe parking at the cemetery.

A submission to Mayo County Council said the plaque will enhance visitor attractions in the community and serve as a visual reminder of the sacrifices made by those who lived there.
