Mayo Young Sports Stars: Camogie expert impressed at club and county level

During a year when quite a number of camogie players made a big impression, Westport's Méabh Tunney stood out.

The year started with her being called up to the county minor team for their All-Ireland series campaign and she assisted them in reaching the All-Ireland C final.

That was good going for an Under 16, and it was in her own age grade that she helped Mayo to the All-Ireland D title. She was named player of the match in the final against Cavan, where her performance helped Mayo win their first Under 16 All-Ireland.

Meanwhile, Méabh was top scorer for Westport in their successful Under 16 Galway C Championship competition and played on the club's junior team, being a starting player in their Connacht final against Portumna in November.

Méabh's has many distinguishing qualities that help her stand out on the field, and has great humility too and is always on hand to help with and inspire up-and-coming camogie superstars.

She will receive her 2022 Young Sports Star Award at The Connaught Telegraph ceremony this Friday in Breaffy House Resort, Castlebar.
