Mayo Young Sports Stars: Marksman left his mark on county final day

Last year certainly was meteoric for Claremorris adult hurlers. They only came together for the first time in February but went on to qualify for the county junior B final a little over six months later – a remarkable feat.

They met another young club, Caiseal Gaels, in what turned out to be a lively decider in early October, winning in the end by 0-17 to 1-10.

The central figure in that victory was Ronan Fallon, who ended the game with a whopping 13 points to his name.

Most of those scores were from placed balls but a peach from play late on effectively sealed the victory.

It was a superb showing from the young forward on a big stage for his fledgling club.

Ronan will collect his Connaught Telegraph Young Sports Star Award at Friday's ceremony in Breaffy House Resort, Castlebar.
