SIX Mayo heritage projects are to receive funding under the Built Heritage Investment Scheme, Deputy Michael Ring has confirmed.

The successful projects are:

Bridge House, Westport, exterior render - €14,000.

Mitchfield, Westport, thatch - €15,000.

Robe Villa, Ballinrobe, ironwork repairs - €7,800.

Creagh, House, Ballinrobe, window opening masonry/brickwork repair, window repairs - €7,500.

The scheme, Deputy Ring explained, assists owners of heritage structures - including those on the local authorities’ record of protected structures and those in architectural conservation areas - to meet their obligations to care for their properties. The scheme is not limited to private dwellings, and also provides assistance to a wide range of other important heritage structures.

Deputy Ring commented: “The Built Heritage Investment Scheme is a tremendous scheme as it offers so many owners and custodians of historic and protected structures to complete necessary works to maintain these structures and safeguard them for the benefit of future generations.”

The news has also been welcomed by Minister of State Dara Calleary.
