Funeral of Mayo nurse who died while hiking in Australia

The funeral arrangements have been announced of Fiona Lavelle, Perth, Australia, and formerly of Crumpaun, Keel, Achill.

She died suddenly on February 21 last while hiking in the Hellfire Bay area of western Australia, evoking a sense of immense loss and sorrow across Mayo.

The 41-year-old nurse/paramedic had emigrated from Ireland a number of years ago with her husband John McLoughlin.

There has been a generous public response to an appeal for the repatriation of the remains to her native place.

Fiona will be sadly missed and remembered with love by her husband John, parents Hannah and Michael, sisters Martina and Siobhan, niece Lauren, mother and father-in- law, Bernie and John McLoughlin, Castlebar, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, aunts, Bernie, Anne, Bridgie and Mary, grand aunt Kay, cousins, relatives and many friends in Australia and Ireland, to whom deepest sympathy is extended.

May her kind and gentle soul rest in peace.

Reposing at Lavelle's Funeral Home Cashel, Achill, on Tuesday evening next from 5 until 7 p.m.

Removal from the family home on Wednesday morning to St. Patrick's Church, Pollagh, for Requiem Mass at 11a.m.

Private cremation will take place afterwards at 4 p.m. in Shannon Crematorium.
