Tributes to Mayo primary school staff member on his passing
Warm tributes are being paid to Michael Finnerty, Cappavicar, Breaffy, Castlebar, whose death has evoked an immense sense of loss in the community.
A staff member of Castlebar Primary School Junior Campus, he played with distinction with Breaffy GAA Club for a number of years.
He is deeply regretted by his brothers Martin and John (Castlebar), sister Catherine Cleary (Dunmore), nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives, good neighbours, work colleagues and friends, to whom sympathy is tendered.
Michael was predeceased by his parents Martin and Margaret and his beloved wife Mary, sisters Bridie and Betty.
In a tribute, Councillor Ger Deere said he was sorry to hear of the sudden passing of Micheal Finnerty.
"I had the pleasure of knowing Micheal for many years and last year he helped the Tidy Towns with a tree planting project with the pupils of St Angela's NS, where he worked as a dedicated caretaker.
"Micheal had a huge civic pride and this was evident in his day to day work and he instilled this pride in the pupils at the school .He lead by example.
"I wish to offer my sincere sympathies to his Family neighbours friends and to the pupils and staff of St. Angela's on the loss of Micheal," he stated.
Tributes are also being paid to him across social media.
One stated: "He was a quiet, unassuming man. I know the children and staff of Castlebar Primary school will miss him terribly."
"Michael one of nature's gentlemen," another stated.
A further tribute described him as having "a deep heart of gold," a person who loved his animals and was always kind to nature.
Parke Keelogues Crimlin GAA Club has extended sympathy to Michael's family, friends and club-mates at Breaffy GAA Club on their loss.
"Michael was a true gentleman, both on and off the field. May he rest in peace," the club added.
His remains will be reposing at Coady's Funeral Home on Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m., with removal to Keelogues Church, arriving at 8 p.m.
Requiem Mass on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. with interment afterwards in Keelogues Cemetery.
