New chairperson at Moy Valley Resources in north Mayo

A new chairperson of Moy Valley Resources, Ballina, has been elected following the departure of long-serving chairman, Denis Michael.

Board member David Dwane was appointed to the position after Mr. Michael announced that he was stepping down from the post.

Moy Valley Resources is responsible for significant community development in the north Mayo and west Sligo region, with almost 60 people on the payroll.

In addition, it provides enterprise, industrial and community space for over 50 tenants across its five properties in Ballina, helping to contribute to the growing economic vibrancy of the region.

“Denis has been synonymous with Moy Valley Resources since the organisation was first formed in 1990,” said the new chairperson, Mr. Dwane.

“As chairperson for over three decades, he has made an enormous contribution to our organisation. He is a highly respected community activist across the region and a very successful businessman.

“Having seen Moy Valley through the ups and downs of the last three decades, Denis is now leaving behind a lasting legacy. But we are delighted that he will continue to sit on the board and to share his vast depth of experience and knowledge,” concluded Mr. Dwane.

The CEO of Moy Valley Resources, Annette Maughan, also paid tribute to Mr. Michael. “Denis has had a great relationship with everyone in MVR, including the executive and the board, and he has been completely committed to our organisation over the years,” she said.

Mr. Dwane joined the board of MVR in 2019, and has also been involved with other local community organisations in the past, including Ballina Chamber of Commerce and Ballina Scout Unit. He is currently vice-chairperson of Ballina Credit Union.

He is well-known in the music industry, both as a teacher, promoter and writer, and is a former commercial director of the Western People newspaper. David is married to Harriett (née Waters) and the couple have two sons, Stephen and Simon.
