Fines from Mayo wardens for non display of tax queried

THE issuing of fines by traffic wardens for non-display of a tax disc has been questioned by Claremorris Councillor Richard Finn.

He raised the issue at a municipal district meeting, where he said a number of people have been fined by the wardens in Claremorris town.

He had proof that their cars were taxed and he saw no reason as to why the fines should be upheld.

In one case, a man would slot his new disc in on top of the old ones but had missed the first slot and it ended up inside.

Councillor Finn asked that these cases be considered, saying if people had paid their tax they were entitled to not have to pay fines again.

He was told anyone issued with a ticket can make an appeal and all the circumstances will be reviewed.
